Sashiko Weave Baseball Cap. A reproduction of a classic shape from before the 1900s.
Sashiko weave is a thick fabric made by using thicker yarns for the warp to increase strength. Historically, this material was used in hikeshi hanten (firefighter jackets). The patterns include wale, asanoha (hemp leaf), and ichimatsu (checkered), and they are dyed in three shades of indigo using natural sukumo dye at Aiya Terroir in Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture.
The fabric undergoes minimal ash removal, meaning some residue remains within the fabric. As it is worn and washed over time, the ash gradually washes out, and the vibrancy of the color increases.
Two types of appliqué are available on the front: "J" and "刺" (meaning 'sashi'). The adjustment belt on the back features leather offcuts.
