Sashiko Baseball Cap A reproduction of a classic baseball cap silhouette from the pre-1900s era.
The fabric is sashiko-ori, a heavy-weight woven textile made by inserting thick yarns into the warp to enhance durability. Historically, this material was used for hikeshi banten—firefighters’ coats in Japan—valued for its strength and resilience.
Each cap is individually indigo-dyed using sukumo, a natural indigo dye. At the time of completion, natural lye from the dyeing process remains within the fabric. Through repeated wear and washing, the lye gradually dissipates, allowing the indigo color to deepen and become more vibrant over time.
Please note: During washing, yellow or brown lye may be released. We recommend washing separately.
The front appliqué is available in two designs: “J” or “Sashi (刺)”. The rear adjustable strap is finished with genuine cow leather.
