Persimmon-Dyed Sashiko Thread "Kujaku" Variegated, Large Skein, 100m
This persimmon-dyed thread is made from soft cotton that retains just enough fluffiness, making it suitable for sashiko. It features complex and vibrant multi-gradation colors dyed into a single skein.
Dyed using "kakishibu," a traditional Japanese dye. Kakishibu is a natural dye made from fermented unripe persimmons. It possesses insect-repellent, antibacterial, and water-resistant properties, and has been used in Japan for centuries for items beyond clothing, such as furniture, tableware, and fixtures.
The tannins in kakishibu oxidize, and a film forms and hardens on the surface as it dries. As it is used, the color deepens and it develops a unique texture.
Made from 100% cotton, this thread is ideal for sashiko, hand sewing, repairs, and decorative embroidery. It pairs well with indigo-dyed or natural-colored fabrics, and its subdued, rich hues add a vibrant touch to finished projects.
