A soft cotton sashiko thread with a slightly fuzzy texture, suitable for traditional stitching.

This thread is dyed using yashabushi, a traditional Japanese natural dye derived from tannin-rich galls formed on alder trees. Long used in plant-based dyeing, this material produces subdued, earthy tones. Through iron mordanting, the color shifts from brown hues to a deep, muted gray, creating a calm and understated appearance.

Yashabushi dyeing is a nuanced process in which the final tone varies depending on the mordant. Repeated dyeing and rinsing help fix the color gradually. With use over time, the color softens and gains depth, and the thread develops a richer, more textured character.

Made from 100% cotton, this thread is ideal for sashiko, hand sewing, repairs, and decorative stitching. It pairs well with indigo-dyed or natural fabrics, adding depth and subtle contrast with its gray-toned, understated color.
