Crafted in Ono City, located northwest of Kobe, a region renowned since the Muromachi period for its fine metalwork. The Tajika Haruo Scissors Workshop has been operating in Ono for four generations since the early Showa era. These nigiri scissors, made by Noriaki, represent the pinnacle of craftsmanship with their rare tsuke-hagane (forged steel) construction — a hallmark of top-quality Japanese scissors.
There are various regional styles of traditional nigiri scissors in Japan: the Kanto region commonly uses the tsume (claw-shaped), Osaka favors the chouba (long blade), and Kyoto is known for the kabura style.
This pair is the kabura style, known for its thick blades and broad, rounded head. This shape provides excellent leverage and cutting power, making it suitable for tasks that require more force and stability.
